St Enoder Vestry Minutes 1849
Correspondence
To William Hughes Esq. District Auditor
Sir,
Since at the Audit on Saturday Last, I find our balance of £134.4.10¾ as inadvertently marked in the f--- of the “Receipt and Payment Book” as AGAINST the Overseers, instead of IN FAVOUR OF. This Circumstance is of very little consequence to us, since you will at once detect the error on opening the book at the next audit; but fearing it might be of any consequence to you, I take the liberty of apprising you of it, and end
Sir
Your very obedt. Servant
Edw Brokenshire

Reply
Mr Hughes returns Mr Brokenshire his thanks for drawing his attention to the error in certifying the Overseers' accounts against instead of in their favour. The error is however so palpable that it can easily be rectified at the next audit and however carefully the Auditor may strive to guard against, it is one he is very likely to commit having to write the same thing over so many times in the course of the day, and it is being rather a rare occurrence to certify a balance in favour of the parish Officers
